Dr. Dominique Abrokwa
Dominque is an international corporate lawyer with over twenty years of professional experience in corporate governance, integrity, and compliance across multiple sectors and countries in Europe, Middle East and Africa. He possesses extensive experience in the design and implementation of effective Compliance Program elements in global corporations, foreign investment advice and compliance. Dominique has expertise in operational compliance in high-risk countries particularly the assessment of international compliance and ethics programs covering investigations and business audits with emphasis on local and regional entities of international corporations. Dominique is bilingual in German and English.
For over 15 years, Dominique has helped several clients with a wide spectrum of complex commercial, corporate compliance and expansion strategies. His experience, pragmatic and result-oriented approach enables him to deliver advice to clients in a wide variety of industries.
Specific areas of expertise he possesses are:
- Compliance monitoring matters.
- Advising companies on preventive compliance matters to detect and reduce risks.
- Assessing third-party compliance processes.
- Helping in conducting investigations on a case-by-case basis.
Currently, Dominique is the Global Head of Integrity at Hitachi ABB Power Grids in Zurich, Switzerland. Prior to joining Hitachi in early 2021, Dominique was with Pohlman & Company in Frankfurt, Germany as the Attorney responsible for Corporate Compliance and Compliance Investigation in Africa.
While at Pohlman & Company, Dominique spent several years working within a global team of compliance experts in the context of a Monitorship pursuant to a Deferred Prosecution Agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice.
Prior to Pohlman & Company, Dominique worked in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates for SNC-Lavalin for four years where he held several positions as follows:
- As the Head of Compliance Operations, Dominique led the implementation and operational execution of the SNC-Lavalin Compliance Program. During that time, he was responsible for multiple legal entities located across several countries in the Middle Eastern and African regions. His responsibilities also included building up international Compliance Teams.
- As Oil & Gas Sector Compliance Officer, he implemented and operationally executed the SNC-Lavalin Compliance Program within the Oil & Gas business unit which comprised support of integration activities of new acquisitions, and continuous improvements regarding business processes, policies and procedures.
- As Resources, Environment & Water Group Compliance Officer, Dominique’s responsibilities included compliance monitoring, oversight and reporting, providing input for compliance and risk assessment for Acquisitions and JVs, as well as assisting in compliance due diligence and supporting integration activities. He also rolled out corporate compliance training and awareness, plus reporting of compliance violations through the promotion and implementation of corporate processes to provide appropriate confidentiality and non-retaliation. Additionally, Dominique provided guidance for continuous improvements to business processes, policies and procedures and created an environment of ethics and integrity
- As Regional Compliance Officer for Middle East & Africa, Dominique assisted local management in setting and driving the appropriate “tone from the top” and in applying ethics and compliance in the day-to-day business. He also systematically rolled out corporate compliance training and awareness programs within the region.
Prior to living in Abu Dhabi, Dominique spent four years working in Dubai, UAE for Siemens LLC UAE where he also held positions as the Compliance Officer & Subject Matter Expert for Oil & Gas related compliance queries; and Regional Compliance Officer and General Manager, Nigeria. In these positions, Dominique led the implementation and operational execution (local & regional) of the Siemens Compliance Program in the Group and the Business Unit, built up international Compliance and Legal Teams and systematically rolled out corporate compliance training. He advised on internal compliance rules, regulations, guidelines, and policy particularly the Siemens Business Conduct Guidelines. He was responsible for monitoring and training Siemens Compliance System and Compliance Tools, supported the Corporate Internal Investigation team by investigating internal (local & regional) ethics and compliance-related issues, and was also the training coordinator for MEA Compliance Officers and Subject Matter Specialists.
Before to working overseas, Dominique was the Counsel for Legal and Business Affairs for J Law Company, in his home city of Hamburg, Germany.
