Osaagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin

His Majesty Osagyefuo Nana Amoatia Ofori Panin, Okyenhene.

Traditional Ruler and Environmentalist

Osagyefuo (redeemer) Amoatia Ofori Panin ascended the Ofori Panin Stool on October 4, 1999. He is the 35th occupant of the Ofori Panin Stool of the Akyem Abuakwa State, an old, powerful traditional kingdom in the Eastern Region of Ghana, which was established by Atta Apeanin Kwaframoa Woyiawonyi in 1362.

Okyenhene, who is also referred to as the Kwaebibiremhene (king of the dense forest, due to the fact that his traditional territory is an area of a dense forest) is rightfully an outspoken advocate for the environment, taking a strong stance against acts that result in environmental degradation in the landscape. In addition, he has been active in raising awareness about HIV/AIDS as well as in supporting formal education for children of school age and the establishment of a tertiary educational institution, the University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies (UCAES) to produce professionals to help preserve the environment for a positive impact not only in Okyeman but in Ghana as a whole.

In October 2019, as Osagyefuo marked his 20th anniversary of ascending the throne as Okyenehene, Osagyefuo traveled through his kingdom and made a bold declaration to spearhead a tree planting initiative to ensure 25 million trees are planted to mark his 25th anniversary in 2024. A great initiative with a crafty play on numbers: “25 million trees for the 25th anniversary before 2025”. During this same time, Osagyefuo also announced the building of 10 model basic schools across the kingdom under his fellowship and ideals, to be named the Amoatia Ofor Panin Basic Schools.
